Hemsloside Ma3 is an anionic surfactant and solubilizer. Hemsloside Ma3 is an oleanolic acid bisdesmosidic saponin that can be isolated from the rhizomes of Hemsleya macrosperma and Hemsleya chinensis. Hemsloside Ma3 improves the water solubility of saikosaponin a, a poorly water-soluble monodesmosidic saponin, and its solubilizing effect appears near the critical micelle concentration. At a constant ionic strength, Hemsloside Ma3 exhibits the property of reduced surface tension with the increase in hydrogen ion concentration[1].

Hemsloside Ma3 (0.1% (0.1 mg/mL); 24 h; 37°C) 可显著提高柴胡皂苷 a 的水溶性，在 37°C 条件下，0.1%的该水溶液可溶解 5.0 mg/mL 的 Saikosaponin a[1]。
Hemsloside Ma3 (0.01-10 mg/mL (纯水); 0.01-1 mg/mL (缓冲液)) 可在水和缓冲溶液中浓度依赖性地降低表面张力；在离子强度恒定的条件下，pH 值越低，其降低表面张力的作用越强[1]。
