Hydrochloric acid (concentrated, 1 ml) was added to N-[4-(2-methylpropoxy)- phenyl]acetamide (500 mg, 2.41 mmol) in methanol (5 ml). The mixture was heated by microwave irradiation to 100 °C for 1 hour before it was cooled to ambient temperature and concentrated. Sodium hydroxide (1M, 10 ml) was added and the resulting mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (2 x 10 ml). The organic phase was dried (phase separator) and concentrated to give the desired aniline (397 mg, quantitative).
