Abstract

Sub-wavelength hole arrays in gold films showing extraordinary transmission of light are prepared by solely chemical methods. Hydrogel microspheres self-assemble into a highly ordered array of discs with defined spacing which is used as a mask for the deposition of a gold film by electroless plating.
