General description
Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide solution in propylene carbonate (PC) is a 1.0 M solution of battery-grade LiTFSI dissolved in high-purity anhydrous propylene carbonate. The product is a clear solution with strictly minimized impurities including low moisture (<100 ppm), low trace metals (<10 ppm Na and K), low chloride (<10 ppm), and low sulfate (<10 ppm).
Application
The main application of 1.0 M LiTFSI in PC is as an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). LiTFSI-based electrolytes have advantages over LiPF6-based electrolytes because they are less sensitive to hydrolysis, safer to handle, and are more stable thermally and electrochemically. Propylene carbonate is an excellent solvent with a lower melting point (-49 °C) than other carbonates, making it suitable for low-temperature applications. In addition, the lower surface tension of 1.0 M LiTFSI in PC has shown to improve the rate performance compared to LiFSI or LiPF6 formulations. 1.0 M LiTFSI in PC is compatible with lithium anodes and NMC cathodes without modification, although its use with graphite anodes is often improved by small additions of reductive additives.
