Smilaxchinoside A is an orally active steroidal glycoside found in the roots of S. riparia. Smilaxchinoside A reduces serum uric acid levels and shows potent uricosuric activity. Smilaxchinoside A inhibits XOD activity and downregulates renal mURAT1 expression. Smilaxchinoside A can be used for the research of hyperuricemia[1].

Animal Model: Kunming (male, 20 ± 2.0 g, potassium oxonate-induced hyperuricemia)[1]
Dosage: 10 mg/kg
Administration: P.o.; daily; 7 days
Result: Significantly reduced serum uric acid levels and increased urine uric acid levels compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
Significantly decreased serum creatinine and serum BUN levels compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
Increased urine creatinine levels and the fractional excretion of uric acid compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
Significantly reduced serum and liver xanthine oxidase (XOD) activities compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
Significantly down-regulated renal mURAT1 protein expression compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
Showed no significant effects on renal mGLUT9 or mOAT1 protein levels compared to the hyperuricemic model group.
