| | Methyl 4-(aminomethyl)benzoate Usage And Synthesis |
| Uses | Methyl 4-aminomethylbenzoate is mainly used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, especially in the fields of medicine and chemical research. | | Synthesis | Thionyl chloride (473 g, 3.97 mol) was added slowly and dropwise to a solution of 4-(aminomethyl)benzoic acid (300 g, 1.98 mol) in methanol (5 L). The reaction mixture was heated and refluxed for 6 h. After completion of the reaction, the solvent was removed by distillation under reduced pressure to give the crude product. The crude product was purified by acid-base treatment to finally obtain methyl 4-(aminomethyl)benzoate (300 g, 92% yield) in liquid form. | | References | [1] Patent: US2008/51397, 2008, A1.
