该产品是检测大肠杆菌中uidA基因（β-葡萄糖苷酶基因β-glucuronidase, Gus）的底物。Gus 基因作为一种报告基因，在植物遗传转化研究中有广泛的用途。Gus基因来自于大肠杆菌，编码β-葡聚糖苷酶（一种水解酶，GUS），可催化底物5-溴-4-氯-3-吲哚葡聚糖醛酸苷（5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-glucronide，缩写为X-Gluc）分解，产生肉眼可见的深蓝色化合物，借此用来观察转基因植物中外源基因的表达情况，鉴定转基因植株。

配制X-Gluc 储存液（20 mg/ml）

用1.5 ml DMF溶解30 mg X-Gluc粉末，终浓度为20 mg/ml。涡旋混匀，用铝箔包好，分装，于-20℃储存，一年内有效（注：若失效后，溶液则会变成亮红色）。
