IgG是血浆中含量最丰富的免疫球蛋白，浓度为8至18mg/ml。这种免疫球蛋白在新生儿感染防御中起着非常重要的作用，因为它在怀孕期间通过胎盘转移。它很容易扩散到血管外的身体空间，在那里它在中和细菌毒素和增强微生物的吞噬作用方面发挥着重要作用。IgG与细菌结合，这些复合物附着在吞噬细胞上，吞噬细胞具有对IgG特异性的表面受体。
