Fluorescent conjugates of streptavidin is a well-established detection tool for protein array, in-gel western, ELISA, and western blotting
Fluorescent conjugates comprises a biotin-binding protein (streptavidin) covalently attached to a fluorescent label. Streptavidin is a 66 kDa tetramer protein that can bind up to 4 molecules of biotin with extremely high affinity (Kd = 10-15 M). Fluorescent conjugates of streptavidin are commonly used for specific detection of a variety of biotin-labeled proteins, protein motifs, nucleic acids, and other molecules (for example, a biotinylated primary antibody bound to a protein target can be detected with a fluorescently labeled streptavidin). Strategies similar to this are used in many detection protocols including western blots, flow cytometry, imaging, microscopy, and microplate assays. Fluorescent dye streptavidin conjugates are supplied in 1 mL volumes at 1 mg/mL solution.
