Very strong Eu³⁺ luminescence is achieved via sensitization by carbon dots (C-dots) in Eu³⁺-doped LaF₃–C-dot nanocomposites for the first time. This energy transfer via C-dots leads to the broadband excitation of Eu³⁺ ions which can have potential use in phosphor based LEDs.
