Abstract

The water-stable metal–organic framework MIL-53(Cr) is able to adsorb phenol and p-cresol from contaminated water as well as the monomeric sugarD-(−)-fructose. Based on the isotherm for phenol uptake from the liquid phase, it is proposed that the framework breathes to maximize the uptake.
