Metalla-analogs of polycyclic arynes represent an interesting class of metallaaromatics with a formal MC bond within the ring. The first examples of a bicyclic β-metallaaryne and tricyclic metallaarynes, including a metallaanthracyne and a metallaphenanthryne, were obtained in good yields by reactions of OsCl₂(PPh₃)₃ with alkyne-functionalized phosphorus ylides.
