‘Gift’ means ‘poison’ in German, which fits the situation of CO₂ in our atmosphere from some points of view. Hence, the utilization and transformation of CO₂ into highly value-added chemicals are like going from ‘Gift’ to gift and have attracted considerable attention from the chemical community. In this review, the latest advances in the field of production of commonly used organic solvents from CO₂ are summarized and discussed.
