Abstract

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was used to investigate the mechanical properties of several starch composites. The copolymer materials blended with the starch include amylose/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH), amylose/poly(caprolactone) (PCL), amylose/poly(butylenesuccinate) (PBS), amylopectin/PVOH, amylopectin/PCL, and amylopectin/PBS). The starch was mixed with each of these copolymers at different weight fractions. The degree of crystallinity of each starch composite was observed using the corresponding X-ray diffraction (XRD) profile.
