The rate and activation parameters for oxygen exchange of the μ₃-oxo bridges in a manganese tetranuclear cluster with H₂¹⁸O have been measured by ESI-MS; the observed ΔS^‡ of −146 ± 22 J K^−1.mol⁻¹ is consistent with the expected associative mechanism of substitution.
