2-Amino-2-(trifluoromethoxy)butanoic acid (O-trifluoromethyl homoserine) was synthesized as a racemate and in both enantiomeric forms. The measured pK_a and log D values establish the compound as a promising analogue of natural aliphatic amino acids.
