A simple and efficient iodine-mediated domino protocol has been developed to construct polysubstituted oxazoles through the C-heteroatom bond formation in water from readily available β-ketoesters and primary amines in high yields. The reaction proceeds smoothly under metal and peroxide-free conditions.
