Analyte-induced formation of partial duplexes was used for biosensor development with cocaine as a model. The cocaine–aptamer interaction resulted in formation of a partial double strand section in the aptamer, where Ru(phen)₃²⁺ was intercalated for electrochemiluminescent analysis of cocaine.
