Abstract

Zinc-doped hydroxyapatite (Zn-HAp) was used as photocatalyst for degrading Bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous solution. Zn-HAp was synthesized by co-precipitation method, and its properties were analyzed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), Nitrogen Adsorption–Desorption Isotherms, and Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS). During analysis, the Zn-HAp material showed an increase in light absorption in the region from 240-400 nm and in photocatalytic activity on the process of BPA degradation under UVA radiation (λ = 350 nm). After 240 min of irradiation, the material degraded 82% of the contaminant, showing that Zn-HAp can be used as an UVA light photocatalyst for the removal of BPA. Therefore, Zn-HAp is a promising photocatalyst in water technology.
