Abstract

Polyanion-type cathode materials for lithium ion batteries have attracted much attention recently in view of their stable structures. Here, relatively rarely investigated LiFeTiO4 and its composite with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been synthesized via solid-state reactions. Their structures, chemical compositions and morphologies are characterized using various techniques. As a cathode material, LiFeTiO4/CNTs can deliver a highest first discharge capacity of 465.7 mA h g−1 and there is still 202.4 mA h g−1 remaining after 100 cycles at 0.1C. The rate capabilities of LiFeTiO4/CNTs are also studied. The promising electrochemical performance of LiFeTiO4/CNTs is well analyzed and discussed.
