8-Amino-2-methylquinoline (maq) has been prepared and complexes with nickel(II) obtained. The complexes, Ni maq₂X₂,xH₂O (X = Cl, Br, NO₃, ClO₄), Ni maq₂XClO₄(X = Cl, I, NO₃), and Ni maq X₂,xH₂O (X = Cl, Br, I) are high-spin and the possibility of polymeric octahedral structures for these complexes is discussed on the basis of conductivities and i.r. and visible spectra. Conductance measurements and the visible spectra of Ni maq₂I₂2H₂O indicate that this complex is possibly tetrahedral with non-co-ordinated iodines.
