Abstract

The preparation of binuclear molybdenum complex halides of stoicheiometry A₃^IMo₂^IIICl₉(A = Cs⁺ or Me₃NH⁺) together with evidence for the [Mo₂Cl₉]^3– species in solution, is described. In spectral and magnetic properties these resemble more closely the known tungsten rather than the chromium analogues. The existence of strong metal–metal interaction in the complex is indicated.
