The condensations of p-methoxyphenylacetamide, benzyl cyanide, and p-methoxyphenylacetonitrile with ethyl phenylpropiolate are described. The structures of the condensation products were elucidated on the basis of i.r., u.v., and n.m.r. spectral evidence.
