Aluminium chloride-catalysed acetylation of aluminium(III) trisacetylacetonate leads to the exclusive formation of a diacylated product. The same ketone can similarly be obtained directly from acetylacetone. Ferric chloride-catalysed acetylation of iron(III) trisacetylacetonate or acetylacetone gives low yields of 2,6-dimethyl-4-pyrone.
