The standard potential of the mercury/mercurous benzoate electrode has been determined in aqueous solution and in 20% w/w methanol + water mixture. Values for ΔH° and ΔS° for the cell reaction H₂+Hg₂Bz₂(s)→2H⁺+2Hg(l)+2Bz^– in aqueous solution are also given.
