ChemistryOpen ( IF 2.63 ) Pub Date : 2023-07-21 , DOI: 10.1002/open.202300068
WenhaoSu,JingCui,RunshengZeng
A new method using substituted 8-aminoquinoline as a directing group has been developed for chlorotrifluoromethylation of unactivated alkenes. 4-Pentenamide substrates show high efficiency with yields up to 99 % under mild conditions. With a broad substrate scope, the reaction can be scaled up to the gram scale and has potential for applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

A novel and eco-friendly method for preparing Fe3O4@Ag and α-Fe2O3@Ag core-shell with high magnetism and potent cytotoxic activity is detailed. The Fe3O4@Ag and α-Fe2O3@Ag core-shell NPs were produced using S. persica bark extract. AN MTT assay demonstrated the potent cytotoxic activity of the synthesized core-shell against breast cancer (MCF-7) and human umbilical vein endothelial (HUVEC) cells. These nanoparticles were capable of displaying a high potential cytotoxic performance against cancer cell line.

Twisted or helical shape 1,2-position-connected terazulene and quaterazulene were synthesized. Variable temperature NMR measurements and theoretical calculations of the quaterazulene suggest that the syn-type structure with terminal azulene overlap is more stable. Planar or bent shape fused terazulenes were also synthesized. Nucleus-independent chemical shift (NICS) calculations carried out for the central seven-membered ring of the bent shape fused terazulene showed a positive value, suggesting anti-aromatic properties.

Computational modeling of xanthine-based inhibitors binding to the allosteric site of MTHFD2, with promising anticancer activity, was carried out. Using docking/IFD, MD simulations and binding free energy calculations, the binding modes in the MTHFD2 and MTHFD1 allosteric sites were analyzed, establishing a clear correlation with biological activity and selectivity. MD trajectories were furthermore analyzed to verify reported conformational changes in MTHFD2.

The high thermoelectric figure-of-merit (zT) of 1.4 reported in (Yb0.9Mg0.1)Cd1.6−xMg0.4ZnxSb2 (x=0.4) is explained in terms of its physical reason. Although the weighted mobility of x=0.4 is the lowest among other Zn alloying content (x), because the lattice thermal conductivity at x=0.4 is also the lowest, the corresponding quality factor becomes the highest with the maximum zT.

ChemistryOpen ( IF 2.63 ) Pub Date : 2023-02-16 , DOI: 10.1002/open.202200239
HendrawanHendrawan,HafizAjiAziz,NinaHaryati,FitriKhoerunnisa
KCl release from a hydrogel consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol), Premna Oblongifolia Merr. extract, glutaraldehyde and carbon nanotubes as well as KCl (VOGmC7-KCl) was started by catastrophic dissolution of KCl from the hydrogel surface, followed by surface cleansing, and ended with desorption of KCl from inside the hydrogel following zeroth-order kinetics with k=1.2645×10−3 mg/s. Together with other measured characteristics, this kinetics profile demonstrates that VOGmC7 hydrogels are promising candidates for developing controlled-release fertilizers.

Ga1-xSnxPd2 is a platform material in the semi-hydrogenation of acetylene. Its catalytic activity is analyzed from the point of view of chemical bonding. Pronounced charge transfer from the p elements to palladium results in the formation of the negatively charged catalytic centers. Combination of all features of the chemical bonding and electronic structure yield the peak of catalytic activity at x ≈ 0.25.
Application of Thermal Response Measurements to Investigate Enhanced Water Adsorption Kinetics in Ball-Milled C2N-Type Materials

Thermal response measurements as well as volumetric water physisorption measurements are applied to study the influence of particle sizes on water adsorption capacity and kinetics. For this, a controlled thermal condensation process followed by a mechanical treatment using a ball mill is applied to synthesize C2N-type carbon materials with smaller and larger particle sizes. The nitrogen-rich surfaces and narrow distributed micropores endow them with remarkable hydrophilic features. Using the InfraSORP technique, a fast and accurate assessment of these properties is demonstrated.

ChemistryOpen is a multidisciplinary, gold-road open-access, international forum for the publication of outstanding Reviews, Full Papers, and Communications from all areas of chemistry and related fields. It is co-owned by 16 continental European Chemical Societies, who have banded together in the alliance called ChemPubSoc Europe for the purpose of publishing high-quality journals in the field of chemistry and its border disciplines. As some of the governments of the countries represented in ChemPubSoc Europe have strongly recommended that the research conducted with their funding is freely accessible for all readers (Open Access), ChemPubSoc Europe was concerned that no journal for which the ethical standards were monitored by a chemical society was available for such papers. ChemistryOpen fills this gap.Based in Europe ChemistryOpen attracts authors and readers from around the world.Reviews, Full Papers, and Communications are peer-reviewed, and electronic processing ensures accurate reproduction of text and data, plus short publication times
