Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin is a bactericidal agent and membrane-disrupting agent. Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin disrupts bacterial cell membranes, alters membrane structure and permeability, and induces leakage of soluble proteins and ions from bacterial cells. Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydoin exhibits bactericidal activity against bacteria[1].

Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (5-25 mg/L; 3 min) 对大肠杆菌 8099 具有强效杀菌活性；在 20 mg/L 和 25 mg/L 浓度下暴露 3 min 后，活菌数分别下降 6.56 和 6.99 log10，而较低浓度则仅能产生较弱的杀菌效果或无杀菌作用[1]。
Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (20 mg/L; 3 min) 可诱导 Escherichia coli 8099 细胞伸长，提示存在 SOS 应答，与其他处理相比，其造成的细胞膜表面可见损伤更少[1]。
Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (20 mg/L; 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 min post-exposure) 可诱导 Escherichia coli 8099 细胞发生极少量的钾离子和镁离子泄漏，且在 20 分钟的暴露时长内，离子泄漏量始终维持在基线水平附近[1]。
