Sodium metaborate acts as a precursor to sodium borohydride, a hydrogen storage medium. Sodium metaborate is used in the production of sodium perborate tetrahydrate[1].

Sodium metaborate (含水量 26 wt.%；80°C；60 min) 在超声辐射作用下可利用粒径为-250 μm 的硼砂颗粒生成四水合偏硼酸钠纯品 (SMT)；反应 60 min 时反应物可完全转化为 SMT[1]。
