Benzaldimines, ArCH = NR (R = Bu^t or PhCO₂), on treatment with di-isopropyl peroxydicarbonate in warm benzene, generates benzimidoyl radicals, ArĊ= NR, which subsequently decompose to give benzonitrile together with the radical R.
