S-Methyl thioacetate is a toxicant with fumigant activity, can be found in emissions from Bacillus oshimensis, Burkholderia gladioli, Burkholderia cepacia, and Pseudomonas oryzihabitans. S-Methyl thioacetate exerts fumigant toxicity against Caenorhabditis elegans and root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. S-Methyl thioacetate functions as a bacterial volatile organic compound. S-Methyl thioacetate can be used for the research of plant-parasitic nematode infection[1].

(In Vitro)

S-methyl thioacetate (0.625-40 μg/cm3 air；24 h) 对秀丽隐杆线虫 (Caenorhabditis elegans) 表现出强熏蒸毒性，其 LC50 为 1.43 μg/cm3 air，LC95 为 4.58 μg/cm3 air[1]。
S-methyl thioacetate (0.25-4 μg/cm3 air；暴露 24 h) 对南方根结线虫 (Meloidogyne incognita) 表现出强烈的熏蒸毒性，在所有测试剂量下的致死率均超过 90%[1]。
